A significant rebate is coming in 2025, designed to make home battery storage far more affordable for Australian households. The Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program is set to launch from 1 July 2025, helping eligible homes save up to $18,950 ($372 per kWh) on the cost of installing a solar battery system.
With limited rebate places and strong interest expected across Adelaide, now’s the time to act. This new rebate is part of the government’s $2.3 billion investment into energy storage. It’s aimed at helping more households add batteries to their existing solar systems — or install new solar and battery packages — while supporting Australia’s broader shift to renewable energy.
To be eligible, systems must be VPP (Virtual Power Plant) ready, allowing stored energy to be shared or sold back into the grid. The rebate will cover up to 30% of the installation cost, making solar batteries more accessible than ever before.
