Wohlers Furniture had a straightforward yet ambitious goal: make their new store as energy-efficient as possible. Although it was tough to pinpoint exact energy needs for a new venture, they chose us to lead them into a solar-powered future.

Positioned near the coast, this project had its fair share of environmental challenges. From wind factors to salt corrosion, we needed an engineering plan that was far from ordinary.

Material Handling

Already an operating business, Wohlers Furniture was welcoming customers daily. So, the challenge was to go about our installation without disrupting their business operations. A bit like fixing the plane while it's flying, if you will.

Speciality Metering

When it came to integrating Tesla batteries, we faced another hurdle. Custom metering systems had to be designed and imported, adding a twist to an already intricate project.

Thorough Consultation and Multiple Quotations

Right from the start, we sat down with the Wohlers Furniture team to understand their energy goals. We offered them an array of products and system sizes to choose from, detailing the pros and cons of each option. Multiple quotations were presented to cater to various budget and performance needs.

Detailed Engineering and SA Power Approvals

Upon selection of the solar components and system size, our next challenge was to make it technically feasible. This required meticulous engineering, especially considering the unique challenges posed by the location near the coastline. Once the design was robust, we submitted it to SA Power Networks for the necessary approvals.

Coordinated Timing with Builders and Owners

Project timing was crucial, as we had to work in sync with the building's handover schedule. Due to unforeseeable weather conditions and other external influences, we decided to schedule the installation after the handover of the building to Wohlers Furniture.

Careful Logistical Planning

Logistics was another domain where our careful planning shone. Arrangements were made for access equipment, delivery of components like JINKO solar panels, Enphase micro inverters, Tesla Powerwall batteries, and Clenergy railing systems.

Seamless Installation with Minimum Disruption

Executing the installation plan worked like clockwork, thanks to our comprehensive preparation. We used cranes and elevated work platforms to install the system without causing any significant disruptions to the store’s operations. The turnaround time for the complete installation was a swift 7 days.

Post-Installation Setup and Custom Metering

After the system was operational, we faced the challenge of setting up custom metering systems for the Tesla batteries. These were imported and designed to ensure smooth and accurate tracking of energy import/export and self-consumption for the store.
